Somatic Reading Circle

Over 6 sessions we will be learning about TRE and IFS, two powerful healing modalities supporting the understanding and release of tension and trauma from our systems.

Both practices encourage us to listen to the body, to slow down and drop in so we can witness its wisdom. From here the unfurling of narratives and awareness of reliance can turn the challenges of our histories towards a catalysing force for growth.

Weeks will alternate between TRE and IFS. Each 90 minute session will include an introductory teaching and body-led experience with one of the tools. For those that would like to join afterwards, we’ll have a more informal group discussion - approximately 30 minutes. This will be a chance to share thoughts and move through wider questions together.

Like any reading circle, group work allows for a subtle resonance across bodies and a widening of perspective. In this context it makes possible accelerated insights and healing shifts that would take longer to reach alone.

It is also possible to join for just some of the sessions, though the group number will be limited and preference given to those who commit to the full series.

About TRE

TRE is a self-help tool that balances the body/mind system to empower individuals in their path towards healing and personal growth.

By actively encouraging the bodies natural tremor mechanism through a series of exercise, it is possible to shift the residual impact of trauma in our bodily tissues, thought processes and energetic field. This would otherwise remain frozen in our system, having a negative impact on our happiness and physical health.

About IFS

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a deeply profound and yet playful approach to healing that makes use of how the mind naturally works with inner narratives, dialogue and imagination

Also know as Parts therapy, the works premise suggests that we all have multiple aspects to our character (Parts) arranged around a compassionate core Self capable of deep connection. IFS brings this internal community into greater balance by having the Self witness our parts stories so we can find integrate what they've experienced.

About the teacher

This first series of teaching is being offered by The Positive Plasticity Project.

Fi James has been a TRE practitioner for 9 years introducing hundreds of people to the practice via workshops trainings and personal sessions. She is a Level 3 trained practitioner in IFS, currently one of the fastest growing therapeutic modalities. As well as fully incorporating its principals in how she lives, she worked clinically with it for 4 years while teaching workshops in a wide variety of different contexts.

"Trauma essentially blocks the flow of energy through our tissues. Whether this is the synaptic cut off of a memory due to an overwhelming experience, or a restriction forming around the heart due to emotional loss, these blocks have a physical baring on our bodies that effect all states of our health. Healing it is a case of discovering, learning from and releasing these blocks, so our systems can find a better equilibrium and flow."
